Dental Implants
Dental implants are a great solution to a healthy, natural smile when replacing missing or extracted teeth. Unlike bridges, no other part of your bite needs to be altered. Above all, they allow you to enjoy everyday activities without worrying about your teeth.
The time it will take for implants is different for each patient but will commonly span over the course of a few months. After an initial consultation, the implant itself will be placed within the jawbone through a tiny incision in the gum.The implant must be allowed about 3-6 months to heal, and during this time the jaw bone will form around the implant in a process called osseointegration. During this healing time you can have temporary crowns installed so that you can eat and speak normally and maintain a proper aesthetic appearance for your smile. As you heal, your implant and jawbone will grow together, this will take up to 3-6 months. You will need to be on a soft food diet for the first few weeks to make sure your implants heal properly. After that, you may choose to have temporary crowns installed, so you can go on with your normal life.
Once your implant bonds with your jawbone it is time to place a small connector called an abutment on the implant. This will be the base for your new tooth. One this is placed an impression of the abutment is created to custom-make your artificial teeth. After the impression is completed we will attach the restoration permanently. Your new smile will look and feel just like it used to, but will still need the same routine care, checkups and cleanings as your natural teeth.
